PHIXER for YouTube Loudness / mono check before upload

YouTube loudness and phone mono fold can thin a mix that sounded huge in headphones. A stereo bed that survives your DAW can soft-drop bass and side detail when the player downmixes or a phone speaker sums L+R. Phase check with PHIXER before upload, after polarity and timing. It is not a YouTube loudness meter, not a limiter, and not a substitute for a true mono / phone listen.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not YouTube Studio, not a loudness normalizer, not a time-aligner, not a stereo widener, and not a substitute for polarity, delay matching, or a real mono / phone check. Use it after hygiene, when residual spectral cancellation remains on a stereo bounce you must keep through YouTube downmix and phone playback.

Three YouTube loudness / mono collapse modes

Fast YouTube loudness / mono / phone audition (about 60 seconds)

  1. Sum L+R on the master / stereo bounce bus. Listen to kick, bass, voice body, and side beds.
  2. A/B stereo vs mono. Note what disappears on fold: punch, consonants, wide pads under voice.
  3. Preview the bounce on a phone speaker or one earbud. Mute wide FX / Haas / side-heavy verbs. Note which path thins the fold.
  4. Re-check fold after any limiter / loudness / encode pass, not only before cleanup. Habit: mono compatibility checklist.

Honest order of fixes (before spectral phase rotation)

1. True mono / L+R listen plus phone preview

Hard L+R sum on the master bounce. Then preview on a phone speaker or one earbud. Habit: mono compatibility checklist, YouTube / social mono, and the 60-second audition above.

2. Polarity if a path flips

Dual mics, stacked beds, dual-path stings. Flip polarity when body returns. Guide: polarity vs phase.

3. Timing / delay-align before spectral tools

Nudge dual mics, stacked takes, and wide beds a few ms. Spectral rotation is not a substitute for timing.

4. Prefer correlated lows and center for phone fold

Keep kick, bass, and critical voice body correlated. Put width in sides that survive fold. Related: Podcast beds and TV dialog.

5. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights

If a stereo bounce must stay stereo and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle frequency-aware phase rotation can help. Prove it with mono A/B. Phase check with PHIXER before upload. Watch the YouTube tutorial and the mono demo.
